Write AMAZING Content

If your goal is to get traffic (and the $ that can give you…) and you aren’t just trying to trick the search engines into sending traffic to your half-assed site, then making good content is 96% of the game.

Users are getting better and better at spotting bullshit and bad writing.  And since there all almost an infinite number of pages on the web, why should a visitor read something that isn’t great?

At this point, you are likely like: “What the fuck?  This is the worst SEO tip ever.  I refuse to ever come back to this shitty blog!”  And I expect that some of you will never come back, because this tip isn’t a trick or a snippet of code to give you a tiny little bump in the Search Engines… BUT:

I guess what I’m suggesting is to take a step back from your day-to-day optimization practices and ask yourself if what you are optimizing/promoting/selling is GOOD.  Is it something you would read if you were a user?  Because SEO is easy when you have a good site… users will link to it and promote the hell out of your site for you if it’s good.  That makes your job as an SEO a lot easier.  So put the time in and make good content.

The reason I keep saying make good content and not write good content is because if you have the time, skills, and motivation, writing is actually the worst way to make content.  Some of the better ways are:

  1. Movies: Make something for youtube and record yourself giving a lecture, tutorial, whatever.  More people will likely link to it and enjoy it.  I’ve come across many Youtube videos with 1,000,000 or more views.  How many of your pages have 1,000,000 or more pageviews?
  2. Interactive: Quiz, Test, Game, whatever
  3. Anything that is more interactive than you writing a bunch of stuff that somebody has to trade moments of their life to trudge through.

Now there are plenty of good sites out there about making remarkable content, and you prolly know a lot of the big guys in the field, but Conrad Hees (a blogger friend of mine) has a great blog about content production, so you should go read it.

Make your content better and you just gave yourself a HUGE leg up in the SERPS.

PS.  We will be back to tips and tricks tomorrow, so don’t lose all hope in Daily SEO.
